“Advertise Here, Please”

By now, you’ve definitely seen it — the startled couple caught red-handed on the Jumbotron, all thanks to the KissCam at a VERY popular concert.

Normally, the KissCam pans the crowds showcasing couples usually over performing their affection — cuddling, giggling, kissing— all in hopes of making it on the big screen for the crowd to cheer & admire.

But this time? The recognition was anything but welcome.

The woman in the video is reportedly a CPO of a huge billion dollar company and her date? A married man — & her superior at their work.

Cue the internet hysteria.

I’ve scrolled through dozens of posts, all echoing the same verdict: They’re getting exactly what they deserve. Sympathy seems mostly reserved for the man’s wife, left at home with their kids & as a woman and mom myself, understandably so. Meanwhile, the cuddling colleagues have received their public judgment — loud, humiliating, and seemingly unanimous by at least everyone with a screen in their hands.

For once, the internet agrees on something.

People can’t get enough of it. There’s something deeply satisfying, it seems, about watching someone else’s messy life and poor choices unfold so publicly. Like a cosmic balancing act — as if, under a “Sky Full of Stars,” the universe finally stood up for every scorned & jaded lover. Ever in the history of love.

Left or right. Christian or not. Pumpkin Spice Lovers and all the other sad people….

But this? This is something everyone can rally behind. This is what we collectively can agree upon.

This is both unifying and SATISFYING.

Stone them!

Boo them completely off the planet.

Tear them apart online until they delete everything!

Make it so they can’t show their faces at work- especially at work and even in their own towns.

They deserve it…

Right?

But…

What if your sin got caught on the Jumbotron?

Think hard for a minute? What’s the skeleton? What’s THE THING?? Maybe you have way more than just one thing you’re not so proud about.

What if your kids had to carry the weight of something you did- at a time where you didn’t make the right decision?

Picture YOUR sin on the Jumbotron.

What if your worst mistake was recorded, posted & reposted a million times, for everyone to

see and ridicule?

We jeer & cheer for justice when it’s someone else’s big fat mess. We encourage a spiraling downfall of strangers- especially when it conveniently makes us forget about our own dirt. But the truth is — we’ve all got something that would look hideous on that big screen for all to see.

ALL OF US.

And yet — Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

‭‭

Not after we said our apologies or tried to clean up our act.

Not when we broke off that affair.

Not when the internet forgot.

While we were still sinners.

Sin should never be justified or excused. But grace cannot be discounted either.

Jesus never canceled a single person at the cross.

He covered them.

So, today-dear Christian,

remember when you’re gossiping and simultaneously throwing stones while hiding behind a screen, on the comfort of your couch, all while inwardly satisfied at their demise- remember your own sins first.

And then remember the grace that is offered… TO ALL.
